Under the ESA, 2007, a management plan identifies actions that could be taken to ensure, at a minimum, that a species of special concern does not become threatened or endangered. What is a species of special concern?Ī species is classified as special concern if it lives in the wild in Ontario, is not endangered or threatened, but may become threatened or endangered due to a combination of biological characteristics and identified threats. The Province ensures the preparation of the management plans meet its commitments to manage species of special concern under the Endangered Species Act, 2007 ( ESA, 2007) and the Accord for the Protection of Species at Risk in Canada. This series presents the collection of management plans that are written for the Province of Ontario and contain possible approaches to manage species of special concern in Ontario.
